TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is the physical representation of Toyota’s commitment to pushing the limits of motoring. As our global racing division, its core philosophy revolves around making ever-better cars through participating in motorsports.

This is a mission that’s been long in the running. In 1952 our founder Kiichiro Toyoda said,
“Car racing is more than just entertainment. It is vital to the development of the Japanese passenger vehicle industry. Just as athletes test their capabilities by competing with all their strength in the Olympics, car makers use motorsport as on opportunity to push vehicle’s performance to the limits and compete for supremacy, enabling them to discover new ways of advancing automotive technology.”

Over the years Toyota has built a rich history in motorsports by sending multiple teams into high profile races from Formula One to World Endurance Championship (WEC).

In 2015, these groups were united under one banner – TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. Named after a combination of the words ‘garage’ and ‘zoo’, the team’s mission is to create an environment where everyone works together to improve the smallest details, and to put a smile on every customer by producing ever-better cars and services.

As one team TOYOTA GAZOO Racing can be seen going full speed ahead at the World Endurance Championship, World Rally Championship(WRC), Nürburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race, Dakar Rally and NASCAR. By driving on every road and facing every challenge head on, we hope to continue the discovery of new innovations, and to inspire others with the freedom, adventure, and joy of driving.

We race our cars
to push ourselves
to learn from the toughest challenges.

WEC - World Endurance Championship

The current FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) was launched in 2012 and is now entering its sixth year. The WEC series traces its history back to 1953 when the World Championship for Sports Cars was launched, becoming the Endurance Championship in 1981. The current WEC series was born out of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup, which was also organized by the ACO and ran for two years from 2010-2011.

The crown jewel of the WEC is inarguably Le Mans, an endurance race steeped in history and tradition. TOYOTA GAZOO Racing is going after the championship, as well as focusing on developing cutting edge innovations in hybrid technology.

WRC - World Rally Championship

TOYOTA GAZOO Racing WRC team is comprised of the most passionate, determined rally specialists. As Tommi Mäkinen, the team principal, says “the key to creating a winning vehicle is to put together a team of professionals who share a singular focus and love what they do. Our team will show the world what Toyota’s ‘I love cars!’ spirit is all about as we work diligently towards our goals.”

Now the team is revved up, and you can be sure that TOYOTA GAZOO Racing WRC team will be ready to roar at the FIA World Rally Championship 2017.

24 HR NÜRBURGRING

The Nürburgring, with its intense up-and-down hills and rough road conditions, is the only track in the world of racing that features the same environment as the general road. It’s said that running 10 laps at Nürburgring is the equivalent to traveling 800km on public roads. The 24-hour race spans 100 or more laps, so this might be the best track in the world to test the limits of both man and machine.

24 Hours of Nürburgring began in 1970 and has been run 44 times since (the race was suspended during the oil crises). Referred to as the “Holy Land of New Car Development,” the race is prime time for manufacturers and professional drivers to put themselves to the test. But although race expertise and cutting edge technology is crucial, the winners at Nürburgring are often simply those with luck on their side.

Other Motorsports

By competing under the umbrella of TOYOTA GAZOO Racing in major worldwide motorsports events, including the WRC, WEC and the Nürburgring 24 Hours endurance race, Toyota is developing its people, improving its products and producing ever-better cars.
